BATMAN(1967) SEASON THREE SERIES PAGE

BATMAN(1967) SEASON THREE

The third and final season of the original Batman live
action series!!

This season sees the change in format to one half hour episode
per week instead of two half hours played back to back on
successive nights! This may have contributed to the demise of
the series as with a half hour it's pretty hard to build a full action
episode!!

Most everyone returns, and they've added a new character:
Batgirl!! Personally, my favorite character out of this series!!
Also returning here from season one is one of the greatest
actors in horror movie history, Vincent Price as Egghead!! And
in a brilliant move, they also bring back Frank Gorshin as the
Riddler from the first season!!!(Second best move of this season)!!

Another new character(special guest villain) is Louie The Lilac
played by Mr. TV himself, Milton Berle!!

And not returning here, and quite frankly maybe another
reason this show died, is Julie Newmar as Catwoman!!! I
never got used to Eartha Kitt as Catwoman!!!

EPISODES 1: ENTER BATGIRL, EXIT PENGUIN(Sept. 14, 1967):

The first appearance of Batgirl, this one has the Penguin
kidnapping Barbara Gordon and trying to force her to
marry him!! Gadzooks!!!

Starring in order of appearance: Bruce Wayne(Adam West),
Dick Grayson(Burt Ward), Barbara Gorden(Yvonne Craig)
Commissioner Gordon(Neil Hamilton), Chief O'Hara(Stafford
Repp) & Alfred(Alan Napier)! Aunt Harriet(Madge Blake) does
not appear in this episode!! She had been ill during most of
this season and only appeared in two episodes!!

Returning for the third and final season as The Penguin is
Burgess Merideth!!

And a change from the previous years here, instead of a
continuing, two part story, we have at the end of the episode
a lead in to the next one's, which has nothing to do with this
one!! This particular lead in shows us the Riddler returning
for the next weeks episode, with Frank Gorshin reprising his
first season's portrayal of The Riddler!! A

EPISODE 2: RING AROUND THE RIDDLER(Sept. 21, 1967):

The Riddler is causing havoc with the boxing world by
mesmerizing boxers into doing his bidding!!

Bruce Wayne(Adam West), Dick Grayson(Burt Ward),
Barbara Gorden(Yvonne Craig), Commissioner Gordon
(Neil Hamilton), Chief O'Hara(Stafford Repp) & Aunt
Harriet(Madge Blake)(This is the first of only two episodes
that Madge is in! She was quite ill and couldn't take the
grueling schedule that an episodic TV show demanded)!!

Frank Gorshin returns for his final appearance as The
Riddler!! The lead-in for next weeks show is a scene
with Siren!!

Sadly, this was not a great episode! A-

EPISODE 3: THE WAIL OF THE SIREN(Sept. 28, 1967):

Siren returns to find out who Batman and Robin are
and to make her millions!!

Here we have "Holy one track Bat-Computer mind", "Holy
fourth amendment"!!

Batman(Adam West), Chief O'Hara(Stafford Repp), Barbara
Gorden(Yvonne Craig) & Alfred(Alan Napier)!

Guest starring Joan Collins(Dynesty, Star Trek: TOS episode
"City On The Edge Of Forever")!!

As bad as the last one was, this is the all-time worst ever
Batman episode of any kind!!!!!!!!!!! As if the Siren's shrill
wasn't bad enough, they added a new song for Batgirl,
which is terrible!! F

EPISODE 4: THE SPORT OF PENGUINS(Oct. 5, 1967):

The Penguin joins forces with Lulu Lasagne, the rich
horse owner!! There's a race coming up and they hatch
a plan to make a ton of money on it!!

Island)!! His name is "Gilligan" on this show!!

Continues with "How To Hatch A Dinosaur"! A

EPISODE 9: HOW TO HATCH A DINOSAUR(Nov. 9, 1967):

EPISODE 11: THE LONDINIUM LARCENIES(Nov. 23, 1967):

This one's set in "Londinium", a poorly disguised version of

the hardest in the world, but unfortunately for him, it's
underneath the Wayne Manor!!

Starring in order of appearance: Commissioner Gordon(Neil
Hamilton), Bruce Wayne/Batman(Adam West), Barbara Gordon

in the TV show Mr. Adams and Eve!!

In this you see: The Joker(Cesar Romero), Egghead(Vincent Price),
The Penguin(Burgess Merideth), King Tut(Victor Buono), The
Riddler(Frank Gorshin) and last but not least, Catwoman(Julie
Newmar)!!!! While it's too bad none of them got to speak,
still it was wonderful to see them all together in this second
to last episode, especially Frank and Julie!!!!! This alone made
this one of the best episodes over all, and certainly the best
of this season!!!(After doing some research here, it seems that
actually none of the original actors where here, but were portrayed
by stand-ins for each of the stars!! But gotta tell you, they look
pretty believable, especially Joker, Riddler, Penguin & Catwoman)!!!

SPECIALS ON DISC 5:

Just a couple of notes here about the specials! While there are
quite a few here, and while there are quite a few actors, directors,
producers, ect here, I was disappointed that Burt Ward wasn't
more present here! Also, I would have liked to see something
about Jan & Dean's contribution to the music of the show!

HANGING WITH BATMAN:
Just how Adam West got to be Batman, and what the
affects were on his life!! With input from: Adam West!
This is excellent!! A++

HOLY MEMORABILIA BATMAN:
As you would expect, the world of Batman memorabilia
through the eyes of: Ralph Garman(Collector), Adam West
(Batman/Bruce Wayne), Jordan Hembrough(Host of "Toy
Hunter"), Kevin Silva(Collector) & Mark Racop(Owner, Fiberglass
Freaks)

BATMANIA BORN:
BUILDING THE WORLD OF BATMAN:

With input from: Burt Ward(Robin/Dick Grayson), Andy Mengels
(Author/Historian), Bruce Timm(Produceer: Batman: The Animated
Series), Jim Lee(Co-Publisher: DC Comics), Mike Carlin(Creative
Director: Animation - DC Comics), Michael Uslan(Executive Producer:
Batman Movie Franchise), Stanley Ralph Ross(Writer: Batman TV
Series), Julie Newmar(Catwoman), Paul Levitz(Former President
and Publisher: DC Comics), Adam West(Batman/Bruce Wayne),
Dan DiDio(Co-Publisher: DC Comics), James Tucker(Producer:

Alan Burnett(Producer: W.B. Animation), Vaughn Edwards
(Production Designer), Tom Earls(Set Designer), Bobi Garland
(Costume Historian/Archivist), Cesar Romero(The Joker), Frank
Gorshin(The Joker), William Dozer(Executive Producer), Len Wein
(Batman Writer, Former Batman Editor)!

BATS OF THE ROUND TABLE:
This is 45 minutes long!!!! Longer than any of the episodes!!
A group sitting around a dinner table, discussing Batman:
Adam West(Batman/Bruce Wayne), Kevin Smith(Comic Book
Men), Ralph Garman(Radio Personality, Collector), Phil Morris
(John Jones[J'onn J'onzz], Smallville, Son of Greg Morris[Mission:
Impossible]), Jim Lee(Co-Publisher: D.C. Comics)! This is definitely
long but well worth the watch!! A

INVENTING BATMAN:
IN THE WORDS OF ADAM WEST:

High Diddle Riddle:
An interesting way to present how these episodes were put
together, with Adam cutting in with comments and memories
of how the episodes were done, what he was thinking while
doing them, and why he presented the characters the way
he did! Just wish this had been done with Burt also!!

Smack In The Middle:
This is the same as above, with this being the second part
of the two part episodes about the Riddler!!

NA NA NA BATMAN!:
A discussion about all things Batman!! With input from:
Adam West(Batman), Burt Ward(Robin), Julie Newmar(Catwoman),
Stephen Amell(Oliver Queen/The Arrow: Arrow), Willa Holland(Thea
Queen: Arrow), David Ramsey(John Diggle: Arrow), Emily Bett Edwards

Supernatural), Kevin Bacon(Ryan Hardy: The Following), Shawn Ashmore
(Mike WestonThe Following), James Purefoy(Joe Carroll: The Following),
Mike Carlan(Creative Director: Animation - D.C. Comics), Mike
O'Malley(Consulting Producer: Shameless) & Jay Oliva(Director:
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns)

BAT RARITIES:
STRAIGHT FROM THE VAULT:

BATGIRL PILOT:
Starring in order of appearance: Barbara Gordon/Batgirl(Yvonne
Craig), Bruce Wayne/Batman(Adam West), Dick Grayson/Robin
(Burt Ward), Commissioner Gordon(Neil Hamilton)

And yes, we have a holy: "Holy vanity case"!!

Fortunately, they did not use the Batgirl theme that permeated
the third season!! This was shot as a possible series unto itself,
but they decided to just incorporate Batgirl into the Batman
series! This is actually a decent little show at only 7+ minutes! A

BURT WARD SCREEN TEST WITH ADAM WEST:
Just what it says!!

Believe it or not, there's even a holy in this: "Holy caboose"!!

ACTOR'S SCREEN TEST: LYLE WAGGONER & PETER DEYELL
They are testing for Batman and Robin! After watching this,
I'm really not sure why Lyle didn't get the role, as he was
quite good here! Peter, on the other hand, would not have
been a good choice for Robin!

As this was the same scene that Adam and Burt tested for,
the same holy, "hole caboose", is here also!!

JAMES BLAKELY TRIBUTE:
James Blakely was the Post-Production Supervisor for the
Batman series! Here he discusses how he got the position,
and a little of the editing that he was responsible for!

From another reviewer at IMDb.com:

Since my generation knows Batman either as a film noir
type (Tim Burton's and Christopher Nolan's movies) or as
something toyetic (Joel Schumacher's movies), it might
surprise us to learn that there was a campy '60s show
featuring the Caped Crusader and Robin. Whatever the
modern movies gave us, they don't give us zany puns or
graphics showing noises. You can bet money that they
had a lot of fun making this series. You're bound to
love it. - lee_eisenberg
