BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA(1986)

You want to know how great Kurt Russell is? First watch Ghost!
Then, after wiping the tears from your eyes, watch this, but keep
the hanky handy, as you will be wiping your eyes again, this time
from laughter!!!!

This is a great, great movie with an enormous amount of fun!! Perhaps
the best comic book type movie ever made! Certainly John Carpenter's
best effort! One of my favorites starring Kurt Russell!! A++

From a reviewer at IMDb.com:

John Carpenter's career peaked with Big Trouble in Little China -- and
what a peak it is. No other director/writer has attempted to create
what Carpenter did in the 80's. Why this took so long to come to DVD
is beyond me. This movie makes the best mix of cavalier anti-heroes,
humorous villains, dark magic overtones, and good old fashioned fight
scenes (done up as a mix of kung fu with old west shoot-em-up).

Those who don't like this movie don't get it's inherent self-deprecatory
theme. This movie is all about fun. If you don't get it, see a doctor about
your broken funny bone! - journeyman_steve

ROAD HOUSE(1989):

Not Swayze's best, but certainly not a terrible movie!
Well worth a watch, expecially if you're a Patrick
Swayze fan! B

A review from IMDb.com:

OK, this isn't Oscar material, it garnered six Razzie
nominations instead. The acting leaves a lot to be
desired, and the dialog is pure corn, but it fills the
"guilty pleasure" category like a glove.

While others like Dirty Dancing, this movie will always
define Patrick Swayze to me. In his memory, I will watch
it over and over.

It will be the movie that reminds me of how attractive
Kelly Lynch is.

It will remind me why I like Sam Elliott.

It will remind me why Ben Gazzara is perfect as Boss Hogg.

It's not art, it's pure entertainment, and why I will
always remember Swayze.

Besides, it has one of the best soundtracks around. - lastliberal

SPEED 2(1997)

This is not nearly as good as the first by a long shot!
Bad script, decent idea, the best actor is the deaf girl,
and this is a movie never to be watched again!! C-

A review from IMDb.com:

Annie Porter (Sandra Bullock) broke up with Jack.
Relationships based on extreme circumstances rarely
ever work. She's been dating a nice simple safe beach
patrol cop Alex Shaw (Jason Patric) for the last 2
months. She runs into him taking a bad guy as a part
of the SWAT team. He convinces her to go on a cruise
to work out their relationship. John Geiger (Willem
Dafoe) is a disgruntle employee who uses his computer
skills and inside knowledge to hijack the ship sending
it into danger. He forces the passengers to abandon
ship. Not everybody gets out as deaf girl Drew is
trapped in the elevator. Alex decides to stay behind
when he suspects foul play.

It's really bad that Jack doesn't return. It's like
a Die Hard movie without John McClane. Honestly, if
they can't get Keanu Reeves back, I rather have Sandra
Bullock save the day by herself. The movie never
recovers from it. The first Speed is a manufactured
plot but the writing is so good that it never felt
fake. This is the exact opposite. Every move in the
story feels fake. The first one pulls the audience
right in. This one never does. The final boat crash
has tons of destruction but it's played almost exclusively
for laughs. It feels more like a spoof. It's fun as
light weight action goes but I stop caring about the
movie long before that. - SnoopyStyle

BANDIDAS(2006):

Even though this is not a top notch movie, it does have
a bit of fun to it! Worth at least one watch! C+

A review from IMDb.com:

Americans are on a land grab building a railroad into
Mexico. Tyler Jackson (Dwight Yoakam) is the cruel enforcer
evicting poor farmers from their lands. Sara Sandoval (Salma
Hayek) is the spoiled rich landowner's daughter. Her father
is killed after selling his land to Tyler. Maria Alvarez
(Penelope Cruz) is the poor gutsy farm girl. The two women
from opposite classes join forces to rob banks and take
revenge on Tyler with the help of retired bank robber Bill
Buck (Sam Shepard). Quentin Cooke (Steve Zahn) is the
bumbling Sherlock Holmes son-in-law of the railway boss
brought in to catch the bank robbers.

Don Diego's dealings with Tyler needs explaining. It
doesn't make sense that Sara loses her inheritance to
Tyler. Even if it's stealing, Tyler needs to say it
out loud as an exposition. I'm also not sure that Luc
Besson understands Mexico other than from some spaghetti
westerns. He does have two of the most beautiful actresses
around. It has his style of campy humor which the two
actresses go full out pulling it off. The love quadrangle
only works because both Hayek and Cruz are game and so
endearing. They are a great pairing and I only wish
that they did continue to rob banks in Europe. It's
fun as long as it's not taken seriously. - SnoopyStyle
