JOHNNY ENGLISH(2003)

This is very Get Smartish! Just Brittish! And honestly this
is quite fun! Well worth a watch or two!! B

From IMDb.com:

OK, so "Johnny English" is basically a stupid movie. BUT
IT'S SO HILARIOUS!!!!!!!! Rowan Atkinson plays the title
character, a dim-witted secret agent trying to stop French
villain Pascal Sauvage (John Malkovich doing a ridiculous
accent) from becoming king of England. Of course, the
whole thing is an excuse for English to get into one
embarrassing situation after another...and meanwhile
get to know sexy Lorna Campbell (Natalie Imbruglia).

Yes, this is very much a movie that they only intended
to be silly. Rowan Atkinson's character is essentially
Mr. Bean as a spy (and talking more than usual). Even
if it is a pointless movie, you're sure to love
it. - lee_eisenberg

JOHNNY ENGLISH 2 - REBORN(2003)

Another good entry into the Get Smar - uh, Johnny English
saga! In fact this might be a little better than the first
one!! B

From IMDb.com:

Johnny English (Rowan Atkinson) returns from training in
Tibet after his dismissal. Pegasus (Gillian Anderson) is
the new boss of MI-7. Kate Sumner (Rosamund Pike) is the
behavioral psychologist. Agent One Simon Ambrose (Dominic
West) is still with the service. English is paired up with
junior agent Colin Tucker to go to Hong Kong. Ex-CIA agent
Titus Fisher (Richard Schiff) tells him about a secret group
called Vortex who are looking to assassinate the Chinese Premier.

I like the character more this time around. He starts off
as a buffoon who knows he's a buffoon. The Tibet section
is a great start. The movie has a few laughs spoofing
James Bond. English is actually funnier if he's merely
competent like when he recalls his Tibetan teachings to
chase after the Parkour guy. It is hilarious because
they're directly making fun of Bond. It's much funnier
than simply being an idiot. The chase in HK is hilarious.
It's too bad that the movie doesn't get back to that
level of comedy. - SnoopyStyle

JOHNNY ENGLISH - STRIKES AGAIN(2018)

After the first two JEs, this was very disappointing!
Not sure the exact issue, but this was just a lot more
boring than the first two! Bummer!! C+

From IMDb.com:

MI-7 gets hacked and every agent is compromised. The Prime
Minister (Emma Thompson) recalls the retired agents. Johnny
English (Rowan Atkinson) is now teaching at a private school.
With his old assistant Angus Bough and helped by his lack of
cyber footprints, his investigation leads to Ophelia Bhuletova
(Olga Kurylenko). Meanwhile, tech entrepreneur Jason Volta
(Jake Lacy) makes himself invaluable to the nation's security.

Atkinson's characters are always a little off-putting.
Their peculiarities allow the audience to laugh at them.
This one walks that knife's edge. It would help a lot if
he has a partner in comedy crime. Bough is an old straight
man. It would probably serve the movie better to have a
comedic partner of an opposite kind. Maybe a funny young
female comedian could give him a better blend. At the very
least, he should not be a solo act. That's what he ends
up being in this. This is a functional comedy until it gets
to the VR section. It's a long section which had me
rolling my eyes and not laughing at all. There are some
small comedic hits but overall, it is a minor
disappointment. - SnoopyStyle
